Bio

David Acevedo is a Philadelphia-based composer and music educator. His wide-ranging work draws from many traditions—including jazz, M-BASE, Afro-Latin music, Western classical music, electronica, extreme metal, hip-hop, and new music—and combines linear and cyclic concepts into dynamic, integrated musical structures.

David’s music has been performed and recorded by loadbang, counter)induction, the International Contemporary Ensemble, confluss, Contraption, the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra, Ellery Trafford of TAK Ensemble, and Sae Hashimoto of Yarn/Wire. His music has been premiered at venues such as OPERA America, Symphony Space, the Italian Academy at Columbia University, the Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, and the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas. His work has also been featured on the Score Follower YouTube channel.

David is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music Composition at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds an M.A. in Music Composition from Stony Brook University (2023), where he studied composition with Matthew Barnson, Perry Goldstein, and Daniel Weymouth and taught several semesters of undergraduate music theory. Prior to this, he received a B.A. in Music from Columbia University (2019), where he studied composition with Zosha Di Castri, George Lewis, Georg Haas, and Andy Milne; trumpet with Andy Kozar, Adam O’Farrill, and Amir ElSaffar; and music theory with Joseph Dubiel.
